Peoples Travel Ministry is pleased to announce that the dates for the 7-day Alaskan Cruise Fund Raiser are August 16-22. These dates are compatible with Rev. Stanley’s schedule. We must have a minimum of 40 paying persons for this fundraiser to be successful. Fourth Annual Girl Scouts’ Father Daughter Dance will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2006 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Martin’s Crosswinds. Dads, uncles, godfathers, mentors, and other male figures can learn to hand dance with the girls in their lives. A lavish buffet, dance instruction, and great music will all be provided!! Tickets will not be sold at the door, please contact your Troop Leader for ticket information.

Join the January February March Birth Month Club on its 9th African American Heritage Tour to Wilmington and Dover, Delaware on Saturday June 10, 2006.  Some of the areas of interest include: Louis Redding statue, Fort Delaware, Pea Patch Island, Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, Quaker Meeting House, Mother AUMP Church, Henry Clay Mill/Hagley Powder Yards, Star Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church, John Dickinson Plantation and much more. OUR MINISTRY THROUGH TEACHING

Hope Community Charter School is in its first year and is enrolling students in grades PreK – 6th grade for next year. The school does a wonderful job of incorporating academics and character development. An article in last Monday’s Washington Post (Teachers Stir Science, History into Core Classes, 9/20/05) discussed E.D. Hirsch’s Core Curriculum and how it can be used to raise math and reading scores, while still providing a rich and engaging educational environment for students.  The Core Curriculum challenges students academically while maintaining their interest-level through an integrated arts, science and social studies program. If you’re interested in more information, feel free to contact Allison Brooks at 202.723.0909 or check out their website at www.hopecommunitycs.org.

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY SUMMER READING SKILLS PROGRAMS:
Beginning in June, American University will be offering programs for individuals as young as age four through adults. Programs include Phonics, Comprehension, Vocabulary, Study Skills, Speed Reading, Life-long love of reading . Girl Scout Silver Award Project: Krysten Thomas is collecting donations for her Girl Scout Silver Award project. The toiletries will go to help with the AIDS epidemic. You can put your toiletries in the donation box by the office. For more information call (202)232-2708.

An Afternoon with the Voices of Peoples: A concert to benefit the retirement fund for A. Knighton Stanley. Sunday, June 4 at 4pm in the Sanctuary. A free will offering will be received. A reception will follow.
